Ben Thomas and company created a meandering mid-west sound that is both familiar and fresh. So Elated, the moniker under which he is now associated, mixes in upright bass, mandolin, and the standard Hammond organ sound to lay out articulate flavors for the listener.

Like a delicate field of wildflowers, the album opens with a breeze of soft melancholy with “The Ache Of Going Without”. The light-hearted, catchy “Why I Need You” follows with a Sufjan Stevens’ vibe going on.

A slightly aggressive acoustic element flows through most of this release. At times Beatle-esque, at others Waterdeep meets Wilco, Ben Thomas have crafted an appealing mix of thoughtfully produced Americana for the soul.
